BJF Electronics Orchid Bee Overdrive
The Orchid Bee was created to explore a different side of the Bee family.
While the legendary Honey Bee tends to lean toward smoothness with a built-in desire for more gain and treble, the Orchid Bee takes another path entirely.
Think of it as the Bee from the other side of the railroad tracks. It still carries that lively gain and shimmering treble, but the top end is rich, balanced, and just slightly dangerous rather than thin or overly sharp. The result is an overdrive that stays dynamic and expressive even at low gain.
The goal behind this design was to find the opposite approach: a circuit that does not push you toward more gain or more treble, but instead gives you exactly the amount you need. Enough gain to shape the next note, enough treble to make the guitar feel alive, and enough dynamic response that the character still sits in your hands.
There has been extensive research behind the balance of treble in this design—what frequencies sparkle, which overtones feel musical, and what truly makes electric guitar treble sound exciting rather than merely smooth.
The result is an overdrive with a chime-like, full-bodied high end and a highly responsive feel in the low-gain range.
