BJF Deep Purple Delay Super Deluxe Echo
The BJF Deep Purple Delay Super Deluxe Echo approaches delay much like a traditional tape echo. Instead of simply placing repeats behind your dry signal, it includes a dedicated preamp with separate Input Gain and Master Volume controls, allowing you to shape both the sound and the playing feel.
Turning up the Input Gain while reducing the Master Volume pushes the preamp harder without necessarily creating obvious distortion. Much like driving the record stage of a vintage tape echo, this adds gentle compression, weight and immediacy. The result can remain clean while feeling fuller, more responsive and noticeably easier to play.
This technique was commonly used with vintage tape echoes to improve the signal-to-noise ratio and minimise the audible effects of tape hiss and splices. It also created part of the characteristic sound associated with those machines: a subtly compressed, harmonically enriched signal with greater presence and authority.
Two Independently Adjustable Delay Sections
The Super Deluxe Echo features two delay sections: one for shorter delay times and one for longer echoes. Each section has its own Delay Time and Repeats controls, so the two sounds can be adjusted independently.
You might set one section for a tight, lightly repeating slapback and the other for a longer, more spacious echo. Because each delay can have its own amount of feedback, switching between the two does not simply change the delay time—it gives you two genuinely distinct echo settings.

The combination of dual delay settings and a tape-echo-inspired preamp makes the Deep Purple Delay Super Deluxe Echo considerably more expressive than a conventional compact delay. It can deliver everything from clean, articulate echoes to rich, compressed and almost overdriven textures.
Raise the Input Gain for more body, compression and harmonic character, then use the Master Volume to set the appropriate output level. Even when the effect still sounds clean, it can make the instrument feel more immediate and responsive beneath the fingers.
