BJFE Candy Apple Fuzz
The Candy Apple Fuzz (CAF) is one of the earliest BJFE designs, inspired by the raw and unruly fuzz tones of the 1960s. Built around the spirit of the cheap fuzz boxes of that era, it has developed a strong following over the years thanks to its bold personality and unmistakable sound.
This is not a polite fuzz. The Candy Apple Fuzz delivers a tone that is loud, nasty, and sometimes slightly evil, with a simmering upper octave character and long, powerful sustain. It hits hard but remains surprisingly musical and easy to control, which is exactly why players have kept coming back to it for so many years.
Despite its aggressive nature, the pedal is very responsive. The high input impedance works perfectly with guitar pickups, and the fuzz intensity can easily be shaped with the guitar’s volume control. Roll the volume down and the sound tightens up; turn it up and the fuzz roars to life.
The Candy Apple Fuzz is also designed to work well with a wide variety of amplifiers. The dedicated Treble control lets you shape the top end so the fuzz sits correctly with different amps and speaker setups, making the pedal surprisingly versatile for such a wild fuzz.
Controls
-
Volume – Sets the overall output level.
-
Fuzz – Controls the amount of distortion and sustain.
-
Nature – Shapes the fuzz character. It can move from open fuzz textures to heavier gated sounds, and certain settings even introduce octave-like or doubling characteristics.
-
Treble – Adjusts the high-frequency response, helping the fuzz work with different amplifiers and tonal setups.
Power
- 9V battery (6F22)
- Standard 2.1 mm center-negative 9V DC adapter
- Current consumption: approx. 1.6 mA (0.6 mA when bypassed)
The Candy Apple Fuzz remains a classic BJFE fuzz: bold, expressive, and slightly dangerous – a fuzz pedal that refuses to behave politely.
