Strömer Mutroniks Superfuzz SF-2 is Åke Strömer’s handmade take on one of the most ferocious and unmistakable fuzz circuits ever made. Based on a 1976 Shin-Ei Companion SF-1 that Strömer once owned, the SF-2 captures the raw, octave-rich character of the original while adding considerably more flexibility.
Each pedal is handmade by Åke Strömer in New York City and features hand screen-printed graphics using water-based inks.
Vintage Superfuzz – Made More Versatile
The original Shin-Ei design is famous for its aggressive, harmonically complex fuzz, distinctive upper octave and huge, almost synth-like character. The SF-2 starts with that foundation but adds an Octave On/Off switch, allowing you to remove the octave component and explore an entirely different side of the circuit.
With the octave engaged, you get the wild, cutting and harmonically rich Superfuzz sound. Switch it off and the SF-2 becomes a broader and surprisingly versatile fuzz/drive, capable of everything from gritty overdrive to thick, saturated fuzz.
A Fuzz Control That Actually Does Something
On Åke’s original 1976 pedal, the Fuzz – or Expander – control behaved more like a second volume control and offered relatively little useful variation. For the SF-2, the circuit has been refined so the Fuzz control covers a much wider gain range.
Turn it down and the pedal can enter overdrive territory, particularly with the octave switched off. Push it up and you get the full-on, explosive Superfuzz experience.
Classic Tone Switch
The second switch is the traditional Superfuzz Tone switch, operating just like the one on the original Shin-Ei. It gives you access to the circuit’s contrasting tonal personalities, from thick and massive to sharper, more cutting fuzz textures.
