EarthQuaker Devices Scrolls Bass Odyssey

Scrolls is a powerful, modern tool capable of shaping any bass signal to match virtually any bass/amp combination imaginable. It’s a sonic pilgrimage through the entire universe of electric bass tone — from Motown to Metal and everywhere between and beyond.

Welcome to the Scrolls® Bass Odyssey from the EarthQuaker Devices® family of sonic solutions! Designed in partnership with Japan’s master of bass tone, Kentaro Nakao, Scrolls can shape the organic input signal of any bass to match a wide range of sonic profiles.

On the right side, Scrolls features a Drive section with versatile, tube amp-like distortion. The Blend knob lets you mix clean signal with overdrive, while the Bandwidth knob determines where clipping is most active — lower frequencies counterclockwise and higher frequencies clockwise.

The left side features a full suite of active EQ controls, including Bass, Middle, Treble, and a powerful Variable Frequency control capable of cutting or boosting frequencies from approximately 20 Hz to 10 kHz.

Scrolls also includes a buffered Parallel Out, an Effects Loop between the Drive and EQ sections, a ¼" output for amp use, and a balanced XLR Direct Out with subtle analog filtering for ampless live or recording setups.

Each Scrolls is all-analog, true bypass, and built one-at-a-time by EarthQuaker Devices in Akron, Ohio.

Controls

• Drive Footswitch: Activates the Drive channel.
• EQ Footswitch: Activates the EQ channel.

Drive Controls

• Level: Output volume control for the Drive channel.
• Blend: Blends clean signal with the Drive signal.
• Drive: Controls the intensity of the overdrive.
• Bandwidth: Determines where clipping is most active.
• Tone: Low-pass filter for shaping the Drive channel.

EQ Controls

• Level: Output volume control when EQ is active.
• Vari: Boosts or cuts the selected Variable Frequency.
• Vari-Freq: Adjustable from approximately 20 Hz to 10 kHz.
• Treble: Boosts or cuts treble frequencies.
• Bass: Boosts or cuts bass frequencies.
• Middle: Boosts or cuts midrange frequencies.
• Deep: 80 Hz boost.
• Process: Low-mid scoop for a more modern sound.
• Bright: 5 kHz boost.

Connections & Features

• Parallel Out: Buffered clean signal output, always active.
• Direct Out: Balanced XLR output with subtle analog speaker-cabinet-style filtering.
• Ground Lift: Ground lift for the XLR output.
• Effects Loop: Positioned between the Drive and EQ stages; always active.

Power

Requires a standard 9V DC power supply with a 2.1 mm negative center barrel.
