BJF Sea Blue EQ (SBEQ5) – Booster with Active EQ

The BJF Sea Blue EQ (SBEQ5) is far more than a simple booster or EQ pedal. This is a powerful tone-shaping tool designed specifically for guitar. It doesn’t aim to be a transparent booster – instead it warms, fattens and sweetens your tone while giving you precise control over your frequency balance.

With its carefully tuned active EQ, the SBEQ can transform your sound in subtle or dramatic ways. It’s perfect for making thin single-coil pickups sound bigger and fuller, adding body and warmth without losing clarity. The pedal is also excellent for tuning acoustic instruments. For example, it can work wonders on an acoustic guitar, helping to balance harsh highs, add low-end warmth, and bring out the natural character of the instrument.

The SBEQ provides independent control over bass, treble, and two midrange bands, allowing you to shape your tone with great precision. If you leave the mids at noon, you can create a mid scoop around 750Hz by boosting bass and treble. Conversely, cutting bass and treble will naturally push the midrange forward. This is because 750Hz is the center frequency from which the bass and treble curves bend upward or downward.

While many EQ pedals use a center frequency around 1kHz, the SBEQ is specifically tuned for guitar, with frequencies chosen to better match the natural range of the instrument.

• Treble: 7 kHz (±15 dB boost/cut)
• Bass: 100 Hz (±15 dB boost/cut)
• High Mid: 800 Hz (±12 dB boost/cut)
• Low Mid: 350 Hz (±12 dB boost/cut)
