The BJFE Fuzz 109 is Björn Juhl’s take on the classic BC109 Fuzz Face, one of the most iconic fuzz circuits ever created. While inspired by the vintage design, this pedal is not a simple reproduction. Instead, BJFE reworked the circuit to create a fuzz that retains the spirit of the original while delivering the balance and usability that modern players expect.
The pedal uses BC109B silicon transistors, which have slightly lower gain compared to the more common BC109C. To take full advantage of these transistors, the circuit has been completely reworked. The result is a fuzz that remains dynamic, articulate, and extremely responsive to the guitar’s volume control.
Roll back the guitar’s volume knob and the pedal smoothly transitions from thick fuzz to warm overdrive and even sparkling clean tones. It responds almost like a vintage amplifier pushed to its limits, making it incredibly expressive and musical.
The Fuzz 109 also works remarkably well straight into clean amplifiers—including bright, Fender-style amps—something many vintage fuzz circuits struggle with.
Controls
-
Vol – Adjusts the overall output level. The pedal is capable of delivering more output than many vintage fuzz designs.
-
Fuzz – Controls distortion intensity and sustain. Like classic Fuzz Face pedals, this control is typically used near maximum for the best response.
-
Saturation – Fine-tunes the character and saturation of the fuzz, allowing subtle shaping of the overall tone.
Power
- 9V battery (6F22)
- Standard 2.1 mm center-negative DC 9V adapter
Specifications
- Size: 66 × 113 × 51 mm (including protrusions)
- Weight: 238 g
The BJFE Fuzz 109 captures the soul of a classic Fuzz Face while adding the clarity, balance, and versatility that BJFE pedals are known for.
