What’s A Space Gnome Amp?

The SPACE GNOME is the GNOME’s bigger, louder sister – still slick, still portable, now with hips and sounds straight from heaven.

It’s a 100% analog, complete guitar amp with switchable DIRT channel and Spring*** Reverb – right at your feet. Inside: a fully discrete Class A preamp, serial effects loop, and a MOSFET power amp pushing up to 50 watts @ 4Ω. Handmade in Sweden. And yes – it’s LOUD*.

* Need less volume but the same feel? SPACE GNOME includes a REC-OUT jack for your DAW, tape deck or live mixer – without IRs, latency or trendy nonsense. Just tone. Real tone. That’s the Himmelstrutz way.

In 2022 Himmelstrutz Elektro Art takes the step into the amplifier world to make a new kind of, a different amp named 8/Infinity. What makes this creation stand out today is its size and simplicity – it’s an analog, fully self-contained guitar amplifier that fits in an MXR-sized pedal! No digital controls, no IRs, no mobile apps – just real tone.

You get 8 watts @ 8Ω or 15 watts @ 4Ω, with full EQ (Bass, Mid, Treble), Volume, and a serial effects loop. Despite its size, it delivers clear, sparkling cleans at low volume and rich, sustaining overdrive when pushed – ideal for recording, rehearsing, or gigging. Think Marshall Plexi tones, but pocket-sized and pedalboard-ready.

We didn’t know it at first – but some of you wanted more than 8 or 15 watts. Some of you also needed one more trick in the same tiny, all-analog format. That’s where the GNOME project began.

Then we learned something else: some of you – yes, especially the dreamy ones – wanted foot-switchable DIRT and a real spring* reverb, for more spacious, emotional tones. The kind that leads to hits. Or romance. Or both. So here it is. The SPACE GNOME. You're welcome.

Like the GNOME, the SPACE GNOME is built around a pure Class A preamp – no lifeless op-amps, no clipping diodes – just real analog tone. Add a serial effects loop and a MOSFET power amp pushing up to 50 watts @ 4Ω, and you’ve got something loud, raw and ready.

Question: Why also this so dumb Himmelstrutz SPACE GNOME amp? Isn’t it enough already with them laughable & dwarfy 8/Infinity and GNOME?

Reply: There’s no such thing as laughable or the rest of immature expressions here. SPACE GNOME is equipped with a footswitchable Spring Reverb*** and also the DIRT channel is chosen by a soft/quiet footswitch. This could have been even worse.

As SPACE GNOME is smaller than any existing spring reverbration unit we have chosen another way which sounds and feels like a tube spring reverbration unit, in our case with the Fender Princeton Reverb-Amp in mind!

The SPACE GNOME is designed and assembled in Sweden – the foundation of all Himmelstrutz products – by the same guy who started this company in 2004.

The longer i play guitar the more i understand that the only thing that counts is your ears and not your mind . I`ve played tweed deluxe amps for 15 years now and i never could imagine , that i will use anything different than that . I like to use pedals very much , but the tweed amp is very picky about everything you put in front of it . It easily gets too muddy , too shrill , too bassy too , too .... . When i used the pedals in front of my solid state practice amps they sounded great , but in front of my tweed amp they sounded awfull and i sended back a lot of pedals . It came to my mind that my ear liked the sound of my solid state amps better than the sound of my tube amps , especially in a time where its hard to get very good tubes / valves . I got to the space gnome somehow by accident but i thought i will give it a try , just to validate if my " it has to be a tube amp " mindset is still justifed . Short story : NO ! Man , this amp has anything i need and some more . The clean sound is very big and stays clean but has still a very dynamic feel to it . When you switch to the drive channel there is nothing i could miss , i can gets different levels of gain only by variegate my picking dynamics . I am playing custom telecasters with low output pickups and first i thought that the drive channel could need some more gain on top to make it sing . As i like challenges i tried to compensate it by working on my playing technics , i worked on my vibrato a lot and after a while i was able to make it sing . If i need some more , it takes pedals very well . To me the reverb is absolutely outstanding , i`ve never heard a not true spring reverb sounding that springy . Even at highest settings it doesn`t mush up everything and it is so musical and organic that i hardly would switch it off . This amp is a really inspiring tool to me , i continue playing for hours and i haven`t played that much since month . Within three days i composed four new songs - great , that´s how it should be . One last thing : To me this is no comparison with an tube amp , it is nothing like " it comes close to .... " or something like that , it is just the true evaluation of my ears . To me this is the best sounding amp i`ve played and my tweed deluxe amps are for sale now and i think that this says everything .
