What we say:
John Suhr brings his 35+ years of experience from his NYC days a half of Pensa-Suhr (making guitars for Mark Knopfler and Eric Clapton amongst others), through his time with Bob Bradshaw and then Fender’s Custom Shop as a Master Builder to his own Suhr guitars workshop in Lake Elsinore, California.
John and his team craft practical masterpieces for musicians of all walks to play and cherish. An instrument from Suhr is an assurance that what you play on has been built with love, dedication and a huge degree of skill.
Suhr’s Classic T takes the Classic T model (digitised from an original 1952 body) as inspiration and includes various updates for the modern player.
These guitars are finished in 'Thin Skin' Urethane for resonance as much as protection. The Classic T still features stainless steel frets, a fantastic 'Even C medium' neck carve with a compound radius (9-12”) radius fretboard for a very agreeable playing surface. The hand-fitted neck join is just perfect: these details all contribute to the feel of an instrument and this one feels superb.
The Classic T also makes use of Suhr’s own proprietary SSCII noise reduction system to passively and invisibly reduce the natural hum of single coil pickups without in any way interfering with the guitar’s tone. It works spookily well alongside the Suhr Pickups (Classic T models in this guitar) to make for a vintage sound with loads of twang in a modern professional context.
Other great performance enhancing details include locking tuners and a Wilkinson bridge with brass saddles. Hardware of this class is so solid and dependable, it simply lets you get on and play unhindered! This Suhr Classic T in Butterscotch is a guitar that inspires feverish playing! This model features a Swamp Ash body and a Quartersawn Maple neck.

Popular in the 1950's for guitar bodies, Swamp Ash originates from the Southern parts of America, from trees whose root systems are under water. This wood is lightweight and porous. Its color is light with pronounced dark brown grain patterns which makes it ideal for transparent finishes. Popular with country, blues, rock and metal players alike, Swamp Ash is highly resonant and offers a nice balance of pleasant highs, firm lows, and a slightly scooped midrange.
Sourced mostly from the Northern United States and Canada, Maple is commonly used to make necks. Maple has a classic tone, strong in the midrange with a sweet spanky high end.
Each Classic T Pro is equipped with our Even C Medium neck profile. Rolled edges and a 9-12" compound fingerboard radius offers a substantial, yet comfortable shape.
The Quarter sawn Maple neck is tinted, then finished in satin acrylic urethane, which provides the smooth feel of natural wood as well as protection from moisture.
Every Classic T Pro includes medium stainless steel frets, which offer silky smooth bending and long-lasting playability. Utilizing the PLEK process on each instrument guarantees the best possible string action, ensures optimized playability, and eliminates intonation problems.
The Classic T Pro™ is available in both S/S and S/H pickup configurations.
SSCII (SILENT SINGLE-COIL)
Our proprietary passive 60-cycle hum reduction system has no impact on tone, there are no batteries to change - just transparent noise reduction.
The Classic T pickups are wound to produce a broad range of classic T-style tones. From clean and snappy to warm and punchy with just the right amount of growl, the Classic T Antique is equally at home in a Nashville honky-tonk or on the Sunset Strip. Every Classic T pickup is hand-built, precisely wound (using our proprietary winding process), and features: plain enamel (neck) and a formvar wired (bridge), and specially formulated Alnico V magnets with vintage correct black fiber bottoms.
The Classic T Pro uses our "Thin Skin" Urethane finish. Our finishing process provides an unparalleled combination of protection, beauty, and tone. Great care is taken to ensure that the thinnest possible layers of finish are applied. This allows the wood to resonate freely while still providing ample protection. Our state of the art equipment, experienced staff, and uncompromising quality control ensure that no instrument leaves our facility until it meets our demanding standards.
