Removing the diodes makes the pedal much louder but also you're getting all the character of the op amp, for a more open and dynamic sound. In this business there is a whole lot of mojo stating gear can only sound great with vintage parts and in vintage designs but if one were to look at vintage sounds or really just great sounds and define a great sound in functions then it becomes a question of techniques and parts available for large productions as I see it.\u003cbr\u003e Anyway it is my pleasure to be able to present the very first BJF model ever made now to be available in large quantities. \u003cbr\u003eBBOD was discounted for production at an even 500 units partly from lack of parts but also because BBOD was BJF's most controversial model, while sometime after some more parts were found as I got the keys to an electronics surplus store's cellar and about 300 more units were made without any advertising but also those are parts are now coming to an end. Therefore it makes me extra happy to be able to present a modern version that has the vintage sounds.\u003cbr\u003e It was the most controversial model I ever made because there were many reviews but they were almost like for different models and because while most of my models combine in any order this model was designed to go specifically closest to guitar. When I first showed BBOD I felt it was a fuzz but my distributer said it was an overdrive. \u003cbr\u003eOthers said it was the closest thing to a Dumble sound. It was also said that you cannot appreciate the BBOD unless you can play well enough. Back in the days of the late 70's, I bought an overdrive that was really \"boss\" (lol) because my local guitar hero used one.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e I had it for years and it worked fine with the higher output pickups such as the P-90's I was using - this was really through the asymmetric clipping because it made sure to clip the transients.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n \u003cp\u003eNot like a TS style overdrive where transients above 600mV just pass clean and dry. Later I modified my overdrive pedal so it had an extra stage with some eq that when used made the pedal sound more like a distortion unit - then the quite heavy bass cut of that pedal mattered less.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e The story of Marigold starts here. I'd look at the best qualities in an overdrive of classic late 70's style I'd like to have, such as soft clipping that would allow the transients of humbuckers and seemingly full frequency response with no audible bass cut - this is done with staircase filter that allows seemingly see-though bass.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n \u003cp\u003eBack in the late 70's, overdrives were made to allow overdriving already distorted amplifiers into more streamlined distortion and these overdrives were more e_x001D_ective than boosters because they were increasing distortion mainly in the midrange as opposed to all frequencies.
